TECH Clean California Releases Annual Report Covering Third Year Market Transformation Results

TECH Clean California’s 2023-2024 Annual Report highlighting the key results from year three is now available. Reporting on market transformation results, the TECH Clean California Annual Report highlights learnings and accomplishments through the initiative's statewide focus and collaboration. The guiding principle of TECH Clean California puts the state on a pathway to six million heat pumps by 2030 and carbon-free homes by 2045.

In the third year since the initiative’s launch, TECH Clean California:

  • Earned two new national awards for our design, implementation, and impact, from the Peak Load Management Alliance (2025) and the Advanced Water Heating Initiative (2024). These awards bring the initiative's tally to three national awards for its first three program years.
  • Installed 28,258 heat pumps with a 90 percent satisfaction rate for heat pump water heaters, and a satisfaction rate of 91 to 97 percent for heat pump HVAC systems.
  • A total of 896 enrolled contractors working in 49 of California’s 58 counties.
  • Dedicated 46 percent of program funds to equity customers and communities including incentives, Quick Start Grants, pilot projects, contractor training, financing, and more.
  • Doubled active users on techcleanca.com for a total of 46,000 active users. Also, users downloaded anonymized TECH Clean California data more than 950 times.
  • Recruited 21 union, educational, and other training centers to train contractors on heat pump technology. Also, we provided 54 heat pump units – both HVAC and water heaters – to 21 these training centers around the state fostering program sustainability.
  • Continued investing in innovation with four Quick Start Grants and six pilot projects.
