Single-Family Company-Level Training Pathways

At least one person at your company must complete company-level training. These trainings cover the knowledge and skills needed for home electrification, including technology fundamentals, design principles, sales strategies, and installation best practices. Owners, managers, and sales representatives will get the most out of these trainings. Installers, service technicians, and office support staff will also benefit.

Choose the training pathway that works for your business based on which technologies you’d like to install. If your company has already taken one of these trainings, there is no need to take it again.

Single-Family Installer-Level Training Requirement

The responsible lead installer for each TECH Clean California project (the person accountable for ensuring a proper, quality installation) must have completed manufacturer training on each installed technology (heat pump water heater or heat pump HVAC only).

Best practice and expectation is to receive manufacturer training on each brand installed. The program will sample projects to verify that lead installers have completed the required training. For this purpose, we will accept confirmation of any singular manufacturer training for the installed technology type.

A resource for available manufacturer trainings for TECH Clean California eligible equipment is coming soon but please don't wait to get trained - any product-specific training that the manufacturer deems sufficient to guarantee a quality installation will be accepted.

Alternatively, the following trainings and credentials are accepted in lieu of manufacturer training as long as they focus on the installed technology. These alternative options vary in format and duration; the main priority is confirming proficiency in heat pump HVAC and heat pump water heater installation.

Accepted Alternatives to Manufacturer Training

This list includes most industry-recognized credentials, certification, and trainings that provide complete education on heat pump installation. If your lead installer completed a different option that you think should count, contact us in advance of participating, and we will review to consider eligibility.
